EPA Brownfields Grant 

In 2018, the City of West Sacramento (City) pursued and was awarded a $300,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Assessment Grant for the Pioneer Bluff and Stone Lock Districts to complete multiple Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), with a portion of the Grant funds allocated for reuse planning and related community engagement efforts. 

 The EPA Brownfield Program empowers states, cities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. 

What is a brownfield? Almost every community has a vacant or underutilized property that may have contamination from past uses. These "brownfields" may be eligible to receive assistance for assessment, addressing potential contamination and planning for safe reuse. Barge Canal Trail Complete!

Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, Yolo County Supervisor and Port of West Sacramento Commission Chair Oscar Villegas, council members, staff and neighbors celebrated the completion of the Barge Canal trail on Thursday, February 13^th 2020. The bike/pedestrian trail is 3/4 of a mile long and stretches along the south side of the Barge Canal access. The trail features bench seating, upgraded trash bins and lighting. Replicas of historic artifacts were installed in the seating areas to honor the Port of West Sacramento's heritage.
